Week of 10/23

C has been working on advocating for breaks for himself-- and then picking his midair poses. Can you guess what animal this is? Second grade celebration of learning last week-- putting our learners in the spotlight! It's a second grade focused week for our photo spotlights. The sensory room (aka Kathryn's office) is a busy place most days, but one of the most interesting things is how often you might look in and see students not jumping on the trampoline, but curled up in the tent, or under a weighted blanket. We all need some different inputs each day, and I'm grateful for this place in our school where students can find what they need. You are always welcome to come try some of the things yourself! The other photos are admittedly from last week, but they didn't make the micro-newsletter due to fall break. It was great having so many families in the building for the second grade celebration of learning, and they were all so impressed by the quality of the writing. Than...

Finally, a short week!

Sarah M.'s class wanted to work on a reset space for their most magnificent thing. Since Sarah isn't really a fan of stuffed animals in the classroom (or maybe just not a fan of lice), her students came up with this cardboard robot, that you can hug if you are feeling sad. Student driven AND helping with self regulation- a double win!  My thoughts this week are caught up in people getting ready for celebrations of learning, and working on end of module performance tasks like first grade's magnificent things.  On my bike ride this week I was admiring the oaks on prince creek, and thinking about why we all are so amazed by the changing leaves. I think it's about how fast it is- it definitely feels like the shortest season. Someone commented to me today that "October's already just about over, right?", and it does feel like that many days- we will have fall break, and the busy-ness of conferences, and soon enough it will be November. To help you take a paus...
