Sarah M.'s class wanted to work on a reset space for their most magnificent thing. Since Sarah isn't really a fan of stuffed animals in the classroom (or maybe just not a fan of lice), her students came up with this cardboard robot, that you can hug if you are feeling sad. Student driven AND helping with self regulation- a double win!
My thoughts this week are caught up in people getting ready for celebrations of learning, and working on end of module performance tasks like first grade's magnificent things.
On my bike ride this week I was admiring the oaks on prince creek, and thinking about why we all are so amazed by the changing leaves. I think it's about how fast it is- it definitely feels like the shortest season. Someone commented to me today that "October's already just about over, right?", and it does feel like that many days- we will have fall break, and the busy-ness of conferences, and soon enough it will be November. To help you take a pause and appreciate the fall, here are some questions from Elena Aguilar that I found thought provoking. If you have a moment, write down some answers.
New information and good to know:
Halloween: there's interest in making the parade happen again this year. If your team is OPPOSED, please let Kendall know before fall break. If you are interested in helping plan, please also let Kendall know!
Monthly staff survey is here! Please take a moment and let us know how things are going.

Fall conference information can be found here:
I am still working on the support and interpretation schedule. For now, homeroom teachers may sign up for a dinner slot. Grade-level teammates who need interpretation: please do not sign up for the SAME meal break. Thank you!
While conferences are soon, trimester one does not end until 11/10. 11/10 is a work day for report cards- no school for students.
Lit Bit:
- DIBELS: This week is a GRADE LEVEL progress Monitor. That means that you will do grade-level probes on all of your students. Some grades have a lot of probes, and while it is encouraged to get all of them completed, we understand if you are not able to do this. Do as many as you can on the students. If you want to opt out of testing students who scored in the blue range at BOY you can. The goal of this progress monitor is to see how students are progressing on grade-level materials. If you have strategic students who are slipping let's be sure to talk about them. We want to make changes in their support before we get to MOY.
- Intervention teachers will be assessing Round 1 students this week. Classroom teachers will be working on the grade level probes for all other students in their homeroom.
- Read Plans: Thank you for your work on Wednesday in completing the read plans. Please reach out to Sarah with any questions.
Elley shared some great dibels tracking resources!
Coreen and Yohana are restarting Coffee Talk this year and are seeking some help with childcare for school aged kids during Coffee Talk, once a month for 45 min. It will most likely be on a Wednesday or Friday from 3:30 to 4:45. If you are able to help please sign up. You will be compensated for your time, please talk to Aimee.
*We are thinking the easiest would be to have the kids go to the playground, so it would be a long recess duty.

Dibels cut scores: You can print just on grade level here and it is a bit easier to read thaan the tiny print on the all grades version.
From facilities: Just letting you know we will be shutting down all irrigation systems 10/10/23. We will be there during the days winterizing the sprinkler systems. Could you please remind duty teachers because there will be some water coming out of the sprinklers during recess, and lunch times.
shoutouts and fun!
| School pictures always remind me about how grateful I am for all of you. Look at these two! |
Thanks to Danny for welcoming pop ins from SSN kids who need a new or better book, a place to do some work, and/or a place to regroup. We are grateful that you’re so great about using your space!
