October!

Third grade did some outside measuring this week! While the weather felt like summer this week, the leaves are clearly saying that it's just about October. This is one of my favorite times at school, when routines are in place and the growth is so clear in the past 6.5 weeks. Take a moment to celebrate how far your students have come. Week of 9/25

This group of third grade boys ALWAYS sits at the table in the far corner, next to the sink. The other day they all switched tables halfway through lunch. I was about to get frustrated with them for swapping seats, but then they told me they switched because they noticed that W.T. was alone at a table. I definitely couldn't get mad at them then...  To me, this is the highest application of both of our school goals (goal 1 of self regulation and SEL all day, and goal 2 of student voice and agency). They recognized that a friend was having a problem, and they took it upon themselves to solve it. Thanks to all of you for the work you do to empower our students as problem solvers, so that they are making our community stronger. And thanks to our SSN team for helping all of our students build an understanding of diversity in all of its facets. Weekend Monday 9/25 ELA collaborative meetings with Kendall BLT, 3:30, library Tuesday 9/26 Kendall out Happy birthday Kristin B! Wednesda...

Week of 9/18

The district is a member of a community organizing group called Mountain Voices Project, which is made up of faith based institutions, educational institutions, and non-profits in the valley (if you want to learn more or come to a meeting, let me know!).  A group of leaders (including a representative from MVP) from the larger organization, the West/Southwest IAF, met this week with Pope Francis, and he said this to them. It's such a great metaphor for the work we all do as well. "Your work is atomic,” he said. “You go atom by atom, little by little, moving forward. Like water moves forward, which becomes a river, and soon pervades everything it touches. Fourth grade has added sentence frames to their IM slides-- extending and deepening our strategic goal #2! Goal #1-- Hannah having an individual conversation with a student in the reset space. Goal #1-- Carly's whole class getting a point for showing learner behaviors! Goal #2-- Ellen's class taking the lead on sharing...
