Week of 9/25

This group of third grade boys ALWAYS sits at the table in the far corner, next to the sink. The other day they all switched tables halfway through lunch. I was about to get frustrated with them for swapping seats, but then they told me they switched because they noticed that W.T. was alone at a table. I definitely couldn't get mad at them then...
To me, this is the highest application of both of our school goals (goal 1 of self regulation and SEL all day, and goal 2 of student voice and agency). They recognized that a friend was having a problem, and they took it upon themselves to solve it.
Thanks to all of you for the work you do to empower our students as problem solvers, so that they are making our community stronger. And thanks to our SSN team for helping all of our students build an understanding of diversity in all of its facets.

This week's newsletter link.

Fourth grade has the giant Colorado floor map. We really only use it once per unit but there are lesson at every grade level. We would love for other grades to integrate it in because it's so much fun for the kids.

Unsure when to ask Aimee and when to ask Kendall? Here's a list of admin roles and responsibilities, that could be helpful.

Great news! Kendall talked to PTO, and they are providing budget for ERW snacks. If you shop with your team, you can submit receipts for reimbursement - approximately $75 each week. The signup list is here!

I'm looking for duty help when I'm driving for 4th grade outdoor ed.
Thursday& Friday
7:45-8:05 front entry
12:00-12:20 1st grade cafeteria
12:20 - 12:40 4th cafeteria
12:40 - 1:00 4th recess
3:15 front entry (optional)
Please let me know if you can help. I'm happy to trade duties as well! Thanks, Aimee

The fire! You can clearly see how if there had been paper all over the walls, it could have been a much bigger issue. Also, apparently we aren't supposed to plug any appliances (microwaves, fridges, space heaters, Chromebook carts...) into a power strip. they need to go directly into the wall. Thank you for double checking your classroom!

Lit Bit:
DIBELS: Next week we will be testing all of our students in ROUND 1 and classroom teachers will test all of their strategic and fragile core students.  If you need any help determining who to test, please reach out to Sarah! We will also be able to PM our kinder students now that we have support going on.  Thank you all for your patience as we learn more and more about the new DIBLES 8.

Focused kids has a PD series starting October 2nd. More information here!

Shoutouts and Fun!

Many thanks to Tori for graciously and competently supporting a SSN student at the drop of a hat and for storing a big item in her room!

Shout out to Carly and Elliot for their teamwork and quick thinking who saved our school from being engulfed by flames.

Crystal doing great in art class!

Today a 2nd grader  was spending a few minutes in the office at lunch. He said he lost a tooth but he threw it in the trash can. Aimee offered to help by asking him if she could write on of her letters for the tooth fairy that he lost a tooth but accidently threw it away. In all seriousness,he declined on the tooth fairy letter, but asked if she would write a letter to get him out of going to Camp. (CampChip) OMG it cracked us all up. He knows Ms Brockman has the power!

I have a shout out to the whole SSN team. You are all working so hard it is truly admirable. Those kiddos are so lucky to have you on their side!

“That (pencil sharpener) sharpens like a BEAST!”
-4th grader

Mr. Dean, champion of all things!

With gratitude for Dean who helps the SSN program in ways large and small and all important.  Today he dove so competently into a project and was so oriented on finding solutions that we already got results within the same day.  What seemed like a big project to me was a very manageable project to him.  Thank you Dean!

Jax: [Asking for the BILLIONTH time since 7:55 if it was time to go home.]
Niko: [sweetly] No, sweetheart, not yet.

My two newcomers are thriving in Labs and Math Centers!  I can’t imagine the cognitive overload they experience each day, but they come to class each morning with big smiles and a hunger to learn everyday!  It gives me chills (and it’s not because my room is cold!). - K-L

Shout out to Dean for cleaning up all the pee in my classroom! - guess who?

A friend and I just started working on our third book. It’s top secret for obvious reasons. Here’s the cover (who can teach me how to add sleeping emojis to obscure faces?).

Join us for a night of revelry as we celebrate TACAW’s second birthday. It’s been a phenomenal two years, and we invite the community to come together and partake in the fun. We have two great bands lined up (learn more below) and the festivities will start early and go late. Come celebrate our success and raise a glass to our bright future.

ABOUT EDDIE ROBERTS & THE LUCKY STROKES

If luck is what happens when hard work meets opportunity, the union of Eddie Roberts & The Lucky Strokes epitomizes that adage. The New Mastersounds’ guitarist and bandleader has a knack for leaning into individual strengths and that sensibility is evidenced through his recruitment of Mississippi-based guitarist and vocalist, Shelby Kemp, who brings a Southern rock grit and candid, nimble songwriting to team up with the Tampa Bay-based Galbraith sisters who possess a simpatico rhythm section chemistry only found within a family bloodline. Powered by the urbane guitar playing and production of Roberts and you have a new tour de force ensemble that makes listeners stop in their tracks the same way Roberts did upon hearing the talents of Kemp and the Galbraith Sisters.
