The district is a member of a community organizing group called Mountain Voices Project, which is made up of faith based institutions, educational institutions, and non-profits in the valley (if you want to learn more or come to a meeting, let me know!). A group of leaders (including a representative from MVP) from the larger organization, the West/Southwest IAF, met this week with Pope Francis, and he said this to them. It's such a great metaphor for the work we all do as well.
"Your work is atomic,” he said. “You go atom by atom, little by little, moving forward. Like water moves forward, which becomes a river, and soon pervades everything it touches.
Fourth grade has added sentence frames to their IM slides-- extending and deepening our strategic goal #2!
Goal #1-- Hannah having an individual conversation with a student in the reset space.
Goal #1-- Carly's whole class getting a point for showing learner behaviors!
Goal #2-- Ellen's class taking the lead on sharing their writing with each other. Hard to find a better example of centering student voice!
new information
Forefront info: I know that many teams are starting to score Checkpoints and End of Unit Assessments. These are all available to view on Forefront. Forefront is a data warehouse that allows us to look at student achievement and growth over time in math. It is incredibly helpful for conferences, MTSS referrals and PLCs or data meetings. See this document for more info, and teams will do some work on this with Aimee on Wednesdays.
An assembly with Colorado Ballet, From the Page to the Stage, is scheduled for CRES from 10:00-11:00 on 10/20/23. Please talk to your team and let Aimee know if your class or your grade would like to attend. We will likely need to work on some schedule adjustments, but need to know who would like to attend first.
CMS crew all day was postponed to 10/6/23. Again, if you or your team would like an 8th grade crew to come and support something in the afternoon (could be a short chunk or time or longer), please let Aimee know
Steal this idea - Holly uses lunch numbers to randomly call kids, AND quiz them on their lunch number! See the video here!
The NSTA is coming to Denver, CO in March 2024. The district wants to take four passionate elementary science teachers! The conference runs from Wednesday, March 20th to Saturday, March 23rd. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the three dimensional nature of the science standards and how to use the standards to improve your science instruction. We would love to have RFSD representation at the conference! NSTA conferences are engaging, offer plenty of hands-on opportunities, and are grounded in evidence-based practices. The district will cover all fees associated with the conference. If you teach science to kids, are passionate about science, and interested in attending the conference, please complete this form by September 30, 2023. Please ask Megan Talbott with any questions (mtalbott@rfschools.com). Here is the link to submit your interest.
The district is still looking for a social studies lead for elementary. Want to follow in Betsy's (sizeable!) footsteps? Check the staff newsletter for more, or reach out to Aimee and Kendall!
Parent volunteer request form is now on the sidebar, as well as here. Remember, if you hit the three lines at the top right, you can find all sorts of useful things!

Lit Bit:
- We completed our first week of progress monitoring. I will keep an eye on progress monitor completion. You may get a reminder email from me if I see some missing data. Please make note that this is meant to be a helpful reminder (not a scolding) in a very busy world!
- New Student protocol for Literacy placement - When new students arrive they will need to get assigned a state id in IC in order to get rostered in Mclass. This typically takes a few days. Once they are on the Mclass roster Tamsyn will pull them during Crew to do a DIBELS test. I will then use this information to place them in an intervention group if needed. An email will go out informing those impacted.
shoutouts and fun!
Just wanted to help spread the word about the Colorado Kids’ Ski Passport program. Kiddos in grades 3-6 can buy a $65 pass that provides four days of skiing at each of our four mountains (Aspen, Buttermilk, Aspen Highland, and Snowmass). It also provides four days of skiing at 16 other Colorado resorts, including Sunlight. You can learn more and buy passes here: https://www.coloradoski.com/
