Week of August 21st

What an exhilarating (and exhausting-- maybe that's just me?) first two days of school!

This year in the newsletter we will be spotlighting photos that match our two school goals (implementing instructional routines that shift the cognitive load to students, and integrating SEL knowledge throughout the day). Aimee and I will be on the lookout as we are in classrooms, but feel free to shine the spotlight on yourself by sending us photos!

First, this parent may have had a different understanding of these questions than we did, but I don't think there's a more honest wish for our children out there.

Mary's class trying out the IM routine "What do you know...."  on day one of school!
They knew all sorts of things about math, including some pretty big numbers.

A fourth grader in Kenly's class really knowing herself and how she likes to read-- it took me so long to decide if the text was upside down or right side up for her! (it was right side up...)
Third grade also knowing themselves, and taking a moment to self-regulate!

New information:

NWEA: The window is open! It will be open for three weeks, and close on September 8th. 1st needs to take math, and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th need to do math and reading. Please put your test sessions on the CRES staff calendar, and reach out to Kendall for any help setting up sessions, if more tech is needed, or if you have any issues during your testing!

CPR and Med Delegation: This Wednesday's ERW is devoted to this. The CPR group will be at the fire station, and the med delegation group will be here. You NEED to have completed the online modules in advance-- we are giving you release time in two weeks at ERW in exchange! Here is more information.

Family newsletter link: https://www.smore.com/yxkuz --- check out what is being communicated to families this week, on our fancy new platform!

Sholder Review: "I tried Sholder earlier this summer. I had a great experience and it was very user friendly. I did experience some sign up issues with people's profiles saying they were available but weren't. Other than that, it was great!". See last week's newsletter for more info on Sholder.

duty schedule: I am sorry for all the drafts! I am still working through some issues, and will have a final final (fingers crossed) duty schedule by Wednesday at the latest. Thank you to those who have stepped in and done duties right now, even if you know that won't be your actual duty.

Do you need a magnetic nametag? If so, let Aimee know!

Are you interested in working with a parent mentor? This is a great way to build connections with our families and have an extra support in the classroom. Let Aimee know ASAP!

Treats with Teachers will happen 8/31/23. Teachers can be outside with their teams for a casual opportunity to see families. This is something we are doing instead of Back to School Night. See your BLT member for more info!

Thank you thank you thank you!
